Hello and let me introduce myself.

My name is Gerardus (Gerry) Boerlage and I came to Australia as a 6 year Dutch boy, migrating to the

greatest country in the world, ``Australia``, in December 1970 with my parents, Coen Boerlage, Elizabeth Boerlage

and my younger brother Peter.

My parents were 3rd generation rose growers from Holland. My father quickly set up his rose farm as soon

as his feet hit the ground here. As my father’s business grew in the Yarra Valley, he was setting up more and more
hot houses, and then introducing boilers to heat the cut roses so he could grow them all year round.

This is where I found my calling with steel during the 1980`s. I t didn’t take long for me to realise that I liked building the hot houses

and installing the boilers, more than actually growing the roses. I was young and hungry, and I wanted to start something for myself.

Because of the strong family history with our horticulture background, and my love of steel, I wanted to see if I could make something that incorporates

both my strengths, and that’s when I came up with the idea of ``steel garden edging``. I quickly had some samples made up, and then I

put a patent on it straight away, as I knew I was onto something special because, steel garden edging the way I designed it, just didn’t exist anywhere in the world.

From my simple design, and actually manufacturing out of my little garage, my steel garden edging products quickly grabbed the attention of some local landscapers

who loved using it, and just couldn’t get enough of it.

The Steel Garden Edging Story in Australia.

If you turn back the landscape industry around 20 years ago, there was only one company doing steel garden edging

here in Australia at that time, and that was the company that I started from my simple idea.

That company grew to be the biggest in Australia, but once the patent date ran out, it was clear that my idea was very popular,

because virtually overnight, lots of people started to copy it. Unfortunately, during that time I had suffered a significant injury in my factory

which left me debilitated physically and mentally. As the years went by, I became more and more vulnerable due to my injury, and

eventually I lost my business. It is fair to say that all the big names in steel garden edging and rustic steel planter boxes to date,

all copied my design, or worked for me.

I have now started all over again with my new smaller business, but this time with many lessons learnt.

My products for sale here on my website are the best design and quality that I ever sold, but now has

the backing of my 25 years of knowledge in this industry that I once started.
